As payment for cat sitting while on a business trip, a friend of mine decided to compensate me with various arts & crafts supplies and among those supplies was this configurable shadowbox. Having never seen anything like this before I was originally at a loss as to what to do with it but with a little planning I came up with a theme for things I love and love doing.
The shadowbox was originally covered in this kraft paper type material. So first I spray painted the entire box this leathery brown color and once dried I added pieces of scrapbook paper in a matching color cut down to size to the back of each configurable box that I used.
Once the base was set, it was time to come up with a creative way to display all the things I love and love doing. I decided to let each configurable box be a separate category and from there the hunt was on for finding miniature items that fell into each category. I used a variety of materials such as old scrabble tiles, stamps and lightbulbs; die cuts and dimensional stickers; miniature dollhouse pieces; and even bits from an old sewing kit to name a few.

Here is a list of the categories for each configurable box, starting from the left and going to the right, from top to bottom:
Box 1: art in general
Box 2: books
Box 3: photography
Box 4: sculptures
Box 5: sewing/needle work
Box 6: music, painting and butterflies
Box 7: dogs, hearts and jewelry making
Box 8: clocks and stuffed animals
I think that the outcome was better than what I had envisioned and it completely sums up the things I love and love doing the most.
If you were given a configurable shadowbox what would you do with it?
Until next time, let inspiration find you!
